Exfoliate Face Benefits

Out with the old, in with the new!

Aging skin looks dull and lifeless because old, dead skin cells collect on the surface. Exfoliation removes these cells promoting healthier skin.

Why does the skin benefit from exfoliation?

The quick answer is:
To promote skin renewal.

It's the accumulation of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin that gives the skin a dull, lifeless appearance.

Exfoliation encourages new cell growth. . .

Once the old dead cells are scrubbed off the surface of the skin and washed away the skin is left with a lovely fresh, smooth glow.

The benefits of exfoliate face skin?

Older skin needs the opportunity to rejuvenate itself.
Exfoliation provides that opportunity by stimulating the cycle of critical skin cell renewal.

Exfoliation is an essential component of any anti-aging skin care regimen

There are two main methods to exfoliate face: the chemical method and the mechanical method.

Each method provides similar results, though it is important to know your skin type so you can select the method and product best suited for your individual skin care needs and symptoms.

The "mechanical" method of exfoliation

Mechanical exfoliation, (also referred to as a way to manual or physically exfoliate face), removes outer skin layers through abrasive friction. The old, dead skin is scrubbed or scraped off in a controlled manor.

Mechanical exfoliation can be performed using:

  • Topical scrub containing a form of exfoliation granules
  • Brush
  • Sponge infused with an abrasive material
  • Exfoliating Cloth
  • Dermabrasion

The "chemical" method of exfoliation

Chemical exfoliation is the process of exfoliation that makes use of acids to remove dead skin cells from the skin.  These products work from within pores to help break the bonds that hold skin cells together, loosening and removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.

The effectiveness of these acids depends on the concentration of the acids to exfoliate face. While low concentration acids can be bought from stores, acids with a higher concentration applied by a dermatologist in the form of a chemical peel.

The higher the percentage is for the concentration of the chemical ingredient, the deeper and more powerful the exfoliation will be.

Professional skin peels typically use a very high concentration of the chemical exfoliant which literally cause the outer layer of skin to peel off in sheets in a day or two exposing the healthy, pink skin underneath.

Still wondering why exfoliate face skin?

With a routine of regular home exfoliation, the numerous benefits to aging skin include:

  • Skin becomes more supple, softer, and smoother
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Reduction in outbreaks and pore size
  • Increased cell turnover and renewal
  • Improved collagen production resulting in plumper, firmer skin
  • Soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enhanced absorption of skin care products

Depending on your skin type, the when and the why exfoliate takes differing strategies.  Skin rejuvenation regimes will typically include a gentle exfoliation treatment at least once a week.  A gentle exfoliation a few times a week for sensitive skin is all that is usually recommended while an oily skin type will benefit from a very gentle daily exfoliation.

It is also helpful to give your skin an occasional respite from exfoliation for a week or so every month, especially if any irritation begins to occur.

Boy, does a good exfoliation give your skin a beautiful, healthy, rosy glow!

Pro Tip

As effective as exfoliation can be to improving your overall complexion, don't go overboard and overdo it because you could actually do more damage than good.

More is definitely NOT better when incorporating an exfoliate face treatment into your overall anti-aging skin care routine.
