January 2010 Issue At-A-Glance:
Facial Exercise ~ Should You Flex Those Aging Muscles to Exercise Your Wrinkles Away? One question that is frequently asked in discussing strategies to firm sagging skin is, "Do facial exercises really work?" If you read beauty magazines, you will surely believe that you can tone away eye bags, firm that dreadful chicken neck and contour those jiggling jowls simply by performing a series of face flexing. However, the fact of the matter is that this anti-aging skin care strategy continues to be quite controversial. (To say the least). One school of thought embraces a regimen of facial exercise as the be all and end all to firming skin while the opposing school of thought maintains that the facial muscles are exercised sufficiently during the normal routine of conveying our expressions each day. Then to make matters even more confusing, an entire other school of thought maintains that facial exercising actually works to enhance wrinkles! Yikes. . . In fact, many noted Dermatologists confirm that wrinkles are not due of lack of facial exercise. Wrinkles occur as a result of increasing free radical activity that work to destroy skin cells and breakdown collagen. They further conclude that there is no way that facial exercise can work to reverse that process. As a matter of fact, many experts in the medical community actually report that on the contrary, increased facial exercises, beyond the natural exercise that we give our facial muscles during the course of each day, may actually result in the deepen of existing lines by forcing our face into unnatural expressions. One example frequently used to demonstrate this point is the prominent "pucker" lines that older smokers have ringing their mouths. The act of inhaling over-uses those particular muscles resulting in a myriad of deep fine lines circling their lips. The opposing school of thought regarding facial exercises is that a regular, repeated workout of targeted facial muscles will not only reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but firm and tone slack muscles resulting in improvement in sagging skin. The theory is that facial exercise improves blood circulation allowing oxygen and nutrients to reach the cells which in turn fight off the destructive free radical activity. As a result, new cell formation is stimulated along with collagen production. I have to confess that I have research quite a bit of literature throughout the years on facial exercise and have yet to formulate a conclusion since there does not seem to be any clinical evidence or independent studies that totally support either theory. So, unfortunately, I have to leave the decision of whether to use this rejuvenation strategy entirely up to you. . . , I did find a few interesting videos on "How to" get started with face lift exercise if you are interested in giving this method of skin firming a try. I'd love to know what you think about facial exercise. . . Yea or Nay? Let us know what your thoughts on the skin care forum.
The Key to Treating Cold Sores
Treating cold sores effectively doesn't have to be a mystery. You can feel it coming on! Cold Sores, that uncomfortable tingling sensation you begin to feel on your lip is unmistakable. Take action before it erupts into a big, painful sore! Here's how to go about Treating Cold Sores Effectively. Even if you don't catch it before it emerges, you will be able to minimize the severity of a cold sore so that it heals much quicker. I particularly like the DermaSeptic cold sore treatment devise because you can start treating before to help prevent the sore from emerging into a big nasty painful swollen eye sore.

Acne Allies Fight to Prevent OutbreaksDo you have acne allies? If you have developed a comprehensive anti-aging skin care regimen, chances are you already do! Being Proactive Can Effectively Prevent Acne Outbreaks! Fortunately for those of us who are constantly battling outbreaks, one of the benefits of implementing good skin rejuvenation regimen is a dramatic reduction in acne outbreaks. This is primarily due to the use of similar active ingredients that address both aging skin issues and acne. The skin needs a variety of nutrients to stay healthy including a large helping of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Aging skin benefits from vitamins A, C, E, and K. , simply by keeping your skin properly nourished helps to prevent acne from occurring. Exfoliation is also a key strategy in maintaining acne free and healthy skin. Exfoliation gets rid of the dead skin cells that collect on the surface of the skin while stimulating new cell growth. Be sure to include a glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid (depending on your skin type) in your routine. These acids are all chemical exfoliants and also work to prevent acne. Simply by developing and implementing a proactive anti-aging skin care regimen works wonders to prevent adult acne by significantly reducing the occurrence of blemishes and outbreaks. There are a few acne allies that are a "must have" which will effectively treat and prevent acne while actively rejuvenating the skin at the same time.
The "A's" Have It as an effective Anti-Aging Skin Care TreatmentThat's right, "A" as is ACID, Alpha Hydroxy Acids to be more specific. Why, might you ask would you ever want to use acid on your face? Because AHA's are clinically proven skin rejuvenators. The AHA’s, which include glycolic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, tartaric acid and malic acid are known to be quite effective in stimulating skin repair, increasing collagen production, increasing skin thickness, improving skin elasticity, diminishing acne, improving skin texture, improving skin tone and decreasing enlarged pores. Quite an accomplishment for just a little acid, right? Every anti-aging skin care regimen should include an AHA treatment as part of an overall effective facial rejuvenation strategy.
Get True Grit ~ The Micropeel ClothThis little cloth is a cheap, quick and easy way to give your skin a deep exfoliation! This face cloth packs a mighty rejuvenating punch. If you don't like the gritty microdermabrasion scrubs, then the micropeel cloth is a wonderful alternative. These special micropeel cloths should come with a warning label because you can easily overdo it. . .
